I am a PhD student in the labs of Roger Adan and Rick Dijkhuizen at the Brain Center Rudolf Magnus, UMC Utrecht, and Image Sciences Institute, UMC Utrecht. I obtained a BSc in Biomedical Sciences and a MSc in Neuroscience and Cognition at Utrecht University. I’m interested in how the brain controls feeding behavior and energy balance and which neurobiological processes underlie the decisions we make in feeding related behaviors. During my MSc, I gained experience with modulation of gene expression using adeno associated viral vectors, behavioral testing, and pharmacological functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging. In Nudge-it I will use translational models to study brain activation patterns related to energy balance and how these patterns are affected by different manipulation. These manipulations include for example treatment with feeding hormones, induction of hunger or satiation, and stimulation or inhibition of specific neuronal activity using DREADD technology. This will give more insights into the neurobiological processes underlying the regulation of feeding, and will hopefully enable us to bridge the gap between molecular knowledge and imaging studies.
